Rear Body Mount Repair
The body to frame mount located behind the seats was by design hidden within the structure of the body panels. A bolt was run up through the frame to a nut plate riveted to the floor of the body which was impossible to get to once the body was assembled.
This problem was identified sometime in very early 1954 production and corrected by providing an access hole. Our car is a very early (January) 1954 production and did not have this access. An access hole needed to be cut on our car to replace the nut plate. Photo shows the cut.
With the access hole cut the nut plate has been removed.
New nut plates were fabricated by Chris with 1/8" plates and square nut welded on. The rusted plates behind the drivers and passenger seats were replaced.
The new nut plates were riveted in place in the same location as the old ones.
Since our early production car did not have this access hole, Chris carefully secured the cut out piece of fiberglass back in place and filled the seam with filler making it almost impossible to detect.
