Hood
The reinforcement structure where the hood hinges bolt to the hood had broken due to over-extending the hood when opening. To correct this, a new section of the front reinforcement bracing was purchased from Brett Henderson who was able to fabricate this commonly damaged piece. The old section had been cut out on the front edge of the hood and this new section test fitted.
A treaded metal plate was riveted to the inside of the bracket to accept the hood hinge bolts. These plates needed to be located and riveted in place before gluing. This photo is showing the plate on the inside of the reinforcement that will be glued against the hood panel.
This would be on the hinge side of the brace after metal plate was riveted.
After metal plates were installed the new brace section was test fit prior to glue up.
For added strength, Chris cut out reinforcement sleeves that were glued into place to help secure the joint between the old and new brace sections.
With the sleeve in place, you can see the bolts securing the flat piece of fiberglass across the joint on the upper left.. Ready to glue.
The reinforcement brace section is now glued to the hood panel.
Once the glue has set, Chris was able to begin his initial shaping of the joint between old and new. More finish work will be needed but major work is now completed and reinforcement is good as new.
